Beginning in early 2021, the Community College Baccalaureate Association (CCBA) began developing the first national inventory of CCB-degree programs in the country. Building on CCBA’s long commitment to documenting state-level CCB policy adoption, this new project extends beyond CCBA’s past efforts by counting the nation’s number of CCB-degree programs by state, institution, program of study, type of bachelor’s degree (bachelor of science, bachelor of applied science, bachelor of nursing, etc.), and 6-digitClassification of Instructional Programs (CIP) code. These data are derived from theIntegrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) where institutions are identified by their Carnegie Classification as baccalaureate conferring, associates dominant, or mixed mission, as well as from state agency websites, public records confirming state-level program approval, and interviews with state agency, professional association, and other state leaders. CCB-degree programs documented by states are then confirmed through institutional website searches, and other public records and personal interviews to corroborate approval and implementation of CCB-degree programs.
On-going work on the national inventory is supported by CCBA’s membership and the generous funding of theECMC Foundation and theJoyce Foundation. The CCBA expresses its appreciation to Debra Bragg and Timothy Harmon, research consultants to CCBA, who conceptualized, guided and published the first set of information on the CCBA’s national inventory web portal. The CCBA also extends thanks to theCenter for Education and Labor at New America (CELNA) researchers led by Ivy Love, and Elizabeth Meza at theUniversity of Washington who collaborated on this project and other CCB-focused research over the last several years.
Moving forward, the national inventory will be updated on a regular basis by the CCBAnational office staff. Users of the national inventory are encouraged to email info@accbd.orgwith information about new CCB-degree programs and offer other recommendations to help CCBA maintain a full and accurate picture of CCB degree conferral in the United States.
